Tesla Home Charging Costs in Germany
Home charging is usually the cheapest and most convenient option for Tesla owners in Germany. If you have your own parking space, garage or driveway, charging overnight makes daily ownership very easy.
Installation costs vary depending on the building infrastructure. If you live in a rental apartment, you may need approval from your landlord and the Hausverwaltung before installing a wallbox. In underground garages, installation can become expensive if the building needs electrical upgrades, fire safety changes or new meters.
At home, charging may cost around €0.27 per kWh depending on your electricity provider and tariff. This makes daily driving much cheaper than petrol or diesel in many cases, especially if most of your charging happens at home.
Public Charging and Tesla Superchargers in Germany
Public charging is usually more expensive than home charging and can cost around €0.55 per kWh or more depending on the provider and location. For occasional use, this is fine, but if you rely only on public charging, the running cost advantage of an electric car becomes smaller.
Tesla Superchargers are one of the biggest advantages of Tesla ownership. They are integrated directly into the navigation system. When you plan a long trip, the car automatically suggests where to stop, how long to charge and what battery percentage you will have on arrival.
Workplace charging can also be excellent. If your employer provides free or discounted charging, your monthly driving costs can become very low. It is worth checking whether your company has EV chargers and whether employees can use them regularly.
You can also find chargers at supermarkets, shopping centers, hotels and through charging apps. Before relying on a charger, check the price, plug type, availability and whether you need an app or RFID card.
